Meet the Author

Richard A. Meyers is a professor, author, and lifelong learner whose journey spans continents, disciplines, and decades of quiet service.

He began his career at NJ Bell as an instructor in the pioneering Electronic Switching System—a precursor to the computerized processing of telephone calls in central offices. In 1970, he joined the Peace Corps and served in India, mentoring high school science teachers in how to build and use inexpensive apparatuses from indigenous materials. Afterward, he taught physics in Bhutan’s Yangchenphug Public School, nestled in the capital city of Thimphu, under the Royal Government of Bhutan.

Matters of the heart brought him back to the U.S. in 1976. Upon his return, he resumed his studies at Columbia University, earning a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and completing all doctoral coursework. In 1980, Richard joined the faculty at New York Institute of Technology as an adjunct professor, transitioning to full-time in 1982. He has taught there ever since, modeling resilience, humility, and the art of teaching through presence.

His published works reflect a dual devotion: to technical clarity and emotional cadence. His 1992 textbook on Pascal Programming (Prentice Hall) served a generation of students whose medium of instruction was the Pascal language, his 2023 Idiomatic Coding text focused on source code development devoid of any particular language, and his Half-Full-Glass User’s Manual, originally written in 2008 and just-now published, invites readers into a worldview shaped by optimism and impartial clarity of vision.

Richard lives in New Jersey with his wife and continues to teach, write, and serve with quiet joy. His mission: to uplift, to demystify, and to remind us that the glass is never empty.

My Personal Mission

This site exists to serve—not to sell. It’s a vessel for clarity, legacy, and quiet encouragement. I’ve built it to share what I’ve learned over decades of teaching, writing, and listening: that technical precision and emotional cadence are not opposites, but partners.

Whether you’re a student, a fellow teacher, or a curious wanderer, I hope this space offers something useful. A clear explanation. A moment of uplift. A reminder that optimism isn’t naïve—it’s a discipline.

This site is not here to impress but to (perhaps) demystify. To model resilience. To honor the scroll. And to remind you, always and ever-so gently, that the glass is never, repeat never, empty.
